In Recognition of Exemplary
Teaching Technique, Practice, or Activity

Purpose:
The purpose of this recognition program is to establish a framework to recognize full-time or part-time faculty members who have established an exemplary, creative and effective teaching technique, practice, or activity at South Texas College.
Focus of the Award: Recognition of Exemplary Teaching Technique, Practice, or Activity.
Procedure:
Each division will establish a Distinguished Teaching and Learning Award (DTLA) Committee. The DTLA nomination committee membership will include division dean, faculty, staff, and one student.
The DTLA nomination committee will have the charge to accept faculty nominations for their division and to select up to three faculty members for recognition for each academic year. The committee will finalize their selection by end of April and forward faculty names along with one page exemplary teaching practice information to the office of the AVP for Instructional Services. The selected faculty members will be recognized during the division meeting at the beginning of the Fall semesters.
DTLA recipients will qualify for another nomination after two years.
Benefits:
DTLA web page will show case each DTL award recipient’s exemplary teaching practice
DTL award recipients will become part of an instructional resource group.
Criteria for Nomination:
Exemplary teaching can include an effective teaching technique, practice, and /or a teaching related activity. Criteria for DTL award could include but not be limited to the following:
Transferable to other courses and disciplines
Uses innovative teaching and learning techniques
Motivates and engages students
Identifies and communicates specific learning objectives
Addresses different levels of learning
Aids in skill development
Provides application of knowledge and skills through active learning and / or service teaching.
Uses technology/multimedia to foster student learning
Criteria for Selection:
Division DTL committees will collect and review nominations for their division faculty. Criteria for DTL award could include but not be limited to the following:
Finalist will be invited to meet with the committee (10 to 15 minutes) to present, discuss, and or demonstrate their teaching technique, practice, or activity for the committee members.
