Application Process

1. Steps to Admission

  1. All interested students must complete an STC Admissions Application Form.
  2. Approval signatures of both the designated high school official and a parent/guardian must be obtained on the Application Form.
  3. Students must also provide a copy of their current high school transcript indicating that they are juniors or seniors, and whether they have the proper TAKS scores.
  4. If not, students must also submit THEA or Accuplacer test scores, or be exempt due to established THECB exemption standards based on SAT or ACT results.
  5. Students who do not have placement test scores may take the Quick THEA Test which will be administered by STC. There is a $29 test fee, and an additional $15 sitting fee when testing individually at STC.

2. Eligibility Criteria

In order for students to be admitted to the Dual Enrollment/College Express Program, they must have:

  1. Completed their sophomore year of high school;
  2. Obtained high school official’s recommendation and parental/guardian approval; and
  3. Achieved minimum scores on the TAKS, THEA or Accuplacer Tests, or be exempt based on ACT or SAT scores.

3. Registration

Upon mutual agreement, STC’s Outreach Department will assist with registration at the school district for all students who are qualified and who wish to enroll in the Dual Enrollment/ College Express Program.

4. Maximum Course Load

High School students may enroll in up to two (2) college courses per semester; however, the College’s Vice-President for Instruction Services may approve enrollment in more than two (2) college courses under special consideration.
