Achieving the Dream Core Team

The Core Team has the primary responsibility for developing a vision for and overseeing and integrating the Achieving the Dream work. The core team will develop and manage a process for college-wide dialogue about Achieving the Dream data findings, goals and strategies and will work with and through the college councils, departments and divisions to adopt Achieving the Dream priorities.

Achieving the Dream Data Team

The Data Team has the primary responsibility for gathering and interpreting quantitative data on student outcomes. The Data Team conduct in-depth examinations of data on student attainment and achievement to diagnose institutional strengths and weaknesses in serving low-income students and students of color. The data team develop s simple graphic presentations to share with the core team, faculty, key academic and student support staff and administration. In addition, this team work s with the core team to recommend institutional priorities for strategy development.

Comprehensive Advising Taskforce

The Comprehensive Student Advising Taskforce has the primary responsibility of developing a model for comprehensive student advising, which promotes a personalized, student-centered environment that provides an integrated system of quality educational information and planning services for addressing students' needs from initial contact through graduation, transfer and/or job placement.

Assessment, Placement, and Matriculation Taskforce

The Student Assessment, Placement, and Matriculation Taskforce has the primary responsibility of developing a model for student assessment, placement, and matriculation, which promotes college readiness for all students and provides seamless systems and processes from prospective student through successful matriculation into college-level courses.

Shared Accountability for Student Learning Taskforce

The Shared Accountability for Student Learning Taskforce has the primary responsibility of developing a model for shared accountability, which establishes shared responsibility among faculty, staff, and students to set and achieve high expectations for student learning.

Starr County Faculty/Staff Advisory Committee

Meets monthly with the campus coordinator to discuss and address matters impacting students, faculty, staff and /or community.

Institutional Effectiveness Team

The purpose of the organization, as stated in the Bylaws, is to improve the institutional effectiveness, planning, and research at South Texas College and to encourage professional development of Team members and College personnel with a functional interest or involvement in these areas.

Library Advisory Committee

The Library Advisory Committee (LAC) was created to advise South Texas College Library Services on system wide library procedures, priorities and long term planning for the three campuses and two centers. This broadly representational group was convened by the Vice President of Information Services and Planning and the Library Director. The LAC act as a liaison between the Library and faculty, staff and the community. The LAC meet regularly and their primary focus is to advise the Library in a wide range of collection, facilities and staffing issues.

Curriculum and Program Review Committee

The purpose of the STC Curriculum and Program Review Committee (formerly the College-Wide Curriculum Committee) is to establish, review, and evaluate curricula culminating in certificates or degrees leading to workforce preparation or transfer to senior institutions. The Curriculum and Program Review Committee oversees the Program Review process and selects which programs will be reviewed during a given academic year. Most importantly, the Curriculum and Program Review Committee will initiate and recommend the nature of the College curriculum and any necessary changes in it, assuring compliance with all guidelines from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and program-specific accreditation criteria . The voting membership of the committee is elected by the faculty from each of the four Instructional Divisions.

Division Curriculum Committee

Each of the College's Instructional Divisions maintains a Division Curriculum Committee to initiate and to recommend the nature of the College's curriculum and any necessary changes in it, assuring compliance with all guidelines from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and the Southern Association of Colleges and schools (SACS). The membership consists of the Division Dean and the representatives elected to serve as voting members on the Curriculum and Program Review Committee, with additional members being elected as deemed appropriate by the Division Dean in order to adequately represent all of the programs within the Division. From the membership, the Division Curriculum Committee elects a chair and a secretary, who will record the deliberations and actions of the Committee.

Core Curriculum Evaluation Sub-Committee

This subcommittee of the Curriculum and Program Review Committee is comprised of volunteer faculty representatives from each of the Core Component areas and a representative from the Office of the Vice President for Instructional Services. This subcommittee coordinates the ongoing evaluation of the Core Curriculum including compliance with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and assessment of the Exemplary Education Objectives (student learning outcomes).

Mid-Valley Campus Faculty/Staff Advisory Committee

This committee is made up of faculty and staff from the Mid-Valley Campus and meets on a monthly basis. This committee works with the site coordinator to address areas of concern that are important to our students, faculty and staff.

Council of Chairs (COC)

Is composed of faculty who serve as chairs of programs/departments. COC acts as a conduit for the flow of information between the faculty and administrators regarding instructional issues. The goals are to facilitate professional development of chairs and to serve as a support system for chairs.

Instructional Council

Providing college-wide leadership for academic/instructional initiatives, issues, and strategies, through the use of data and information, using a shared governance model. The Council includes instructional administrators, and executive officers from the faculty senate and the council of chairs.
