Welcome to our High School Programs and Services Department!
We take pride in working with all public and private high schools in our college service area, which includes all of Hidalgo and Starr counties. STC is currently partnered with 16 school districts in which 31 high school sites are being served. Together we are opening and improving high school student participation and educational opportunities, mainly through our most successful program, the "College Express" dual enrollment program.
Since its initiation in 1999, the dual enrollment program has grown from 425 students to a remarkable 4,700 dual enrollment student population this fall 2006 semester. Much of this success is attributed to the support and commitment of the high school staff, counselors and administration that have continued to look at ways to open and provide access to student participation. The success of this program is shared jointly with the support of the Board of Education, administration, instructional staff, and quality student service personnel at STC.
We are extremely proud to be the leaders in implementing innovative approaches that continue to provide access with affordability to all the high school students of our community in academic and WECM college courses. We are most proud of our newest program, the Dual Enrollment Academy programs that allows eligible high school participants to complete a two-year Associate of Science degree in either Biology or Engineering by the time they graduate from high school. We look forward to the success of these academy programs and the implementation of other academies in the near future in other much needed careers.
