Valley Scholars' History
The Valley Scholars Program was established at South Texas College (STC) in 1997 with a mission "to provide financial support, encouragement, mentoring, and campus-based work that helps academically talented and highly motivated students be successful in college." The program recruits academically talented students who graduated within the top 10% of their high school class and offers support services, scholarships, and participation in the STC Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society.
In 2003, the Valley Scholars Program started the Employee Donation Campaign to provide STC employees the opportunity to give back to their community and assist students in need. STC employees have shown their commitment to education by giving over $35,000 in the past 5 years. These contributions have afforded some Valley Scholars to become doctors, pharmacists, engineers, and teachers among respected professions.
