South Texas College recognizes excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service through academic classifications that reflect a faculty member’s professional growth and contributions.
Faculty Classifications
Faculty
Full-time regular faculty members are dedicated to student success and academic excellence.
Assistant Professor
Granted to faculty with advanced education and at least two years of full-time service who demonstrate strong teaching and active participation in College or community initiatives.
Associate Professor
Recognizes faculty with a master’s or doctoral degree and significant experience, typically five or more years of service, who show excellence in teaching and leadership in professional or scholarly activities.
Professor
The highest faculty classification, awarded to those with a doctoral degree, extensive service, and a record of outstanding teaching, leadership, and contributions to the College and community.
Professor Emeritus
The title of Professor Emeritus is an honorary distinction granted to retired faculty who have demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, and dedication throughout their careers at South Texas College.
Professor Emeritus benefits include:
- Continued access to select College resources and facilities, including ID card and active email
- Recognition in institutional publications and events
- Opportunities to remain engaged in academic and professional activities
- A Certificate of Recognition commemorating this lifetime honor.
